Name:Lisa Blankenship
Birthdate:1986-06-07
E-mail:mkgordon@iglou.com
Bio:

Real Name: Karen Higgins (married name: Karen Chandler)

Age: 23

Hometown: Originally Cincinnati, Ohio, but now lives in Atlanta, Georgia.

Physical Description: Karen has black hair a little longer than shoulder-length. She usually wears it parted in the middle, and kind of wavy/curly in back. Her eyes are a striking blue, contrasting with her dark hair. She stands about 5' 4" tall and weighs 112 lbs. She has no tattoos or identifying marks other than a small scar near the top of her forehead, which is normally covered by her bangs. She has a somewhat athletic build and is in good shape physically. In her free time, she dresses casually; typically wearing a t-shirt or sweatshirt, shorts or blue jeans, flip flops or sneakers. She dresses more professionally for work, typically wearing a skirt, blouse, jacket, and high-heeled shoes or boots. She also has several nice dresses and evening gowns for formal occassions or for going out on the town.

Personality: Karen is normally a caring and friendly person who is well thought of by almost everyone who knows her well. She is loyal and supportive of her friends, and is willing to help them out whenever she can. She rarely holds a grudge, and usually takes a "live and let live" attitude. Over the last couple of weeks, though, events in her life have changed her into a depressed and frightened shell of her former self. She used to have a laid-back, easy-going personality, but now she often seems nervous and jumpy. She doesn't laugh or smile as much as she used to, and when she does, it's usually a mask to cover her inner feelings. She has become much more withdrawn, and often seems worried, or maybe sad. She is in fact teetering on the brink of paranoia and despair.

Sexuality: Straight.

Traveling With: Solo.

Contest Entry: Involuntary. Karen's husband, Allen Chandler, won tickets on this cruise for himself and his mistress, Lisa Blankenship. Karen has come on the cruise masquerading as Lisa, claiming that Allen was prevented from coming on the cruise by events beyond his control and that he plans to fly to Bermuda to meet her there.

Career/Job: Karen worked as an accountant at HumanCorp Insurance Company until a few days ago.

History: Karen was born into an average middle-class family in Cincinnati, the youngest of three sisters. Her father worked at a local factory, and her mother worked as an elementary school teacher. She had a happy but unremarkable childhood. She did well at school, most years finishing in the top ten in her class. Despite her grades, her parents worried about how they were going to afford to send her to college. They were already struggling to help her older sisters pay their tuition.

As a freshman in high school, Karen successfully tried out for the cheerleading squad. Some of the other cheerleaders didn't want her on the squad, because she didn't fit in with their "popular girl" clique. She never caved in to the peer pressure to behave as they wanted her to. Still, the coach recognized her skill and talent, and by her senior year she was one of two co-captains on the squad. Her team won several cheerleading competitions, and as a result, she landed a cheerleading scholarship with the University of Louisville, a perennial powerhouse at the sport. The peak of her cheerleading career came in 2006, when the University of Louisville won the National Cheerleading Association's Collegiate National Championship.

During college, Karen dated several guys, but none of the relationships lasted more than a few months. After she graduated from college with a degree in accounting and economics, she took a job in Atlanta with HumanCorp. At her new job, she was befriended by one of her coworkers, a computer programmer/analyst named Lisa Blankenship. Lisa had grown up in Atlanta, and so she showed Karen around and introduced her to a lot of people, including a handsome and moderately wealthy businessman named Allen Chandler. Karen and Allen fell in love and eventually got married, and Karen asked Lisa to be one of her bridesmaids.

After the wedding, Lisa spent a lot of time with Karen and Allen. Karen failed to realize that Lisa and Allen were growing closer. Allen started having an affair with Lisa, but Karen was clueless. As Allen and Lisa fell more deeply in love, they began to scheme of a way to get rid of Karen and get rich in the process. They devised a plot in which they would embezzle money from HumanCorp and frame Karen for it. After creating a fake ID featuring Karen's name and identification information but Lisa's picture, Lisa used her computer savvy to transfer $400,000 into Karen's account and fudged the computer records so that it would look like Karen had done it. Lisa then withdrew all the money from Karen's account using the fake ID. If all had gone according to plan, the embezzlement would have been detected and Karen would have been arrested for it and hauled off to jail. Meanwhile, Allen and Lisa would go on this cruise, taking the stolen money with them and hiding it in Bermuda until they could retrieve it safely at a later date. Allen would use Karen's criminal conviction as grounds for divorce, and then he and Lisa could marry.

Fortunately for Karen, everything did not go according to plan. Allen and Lisa's plan started to fall apart when, during her lunch hour on the same day that Lisa had made the monetary transfer and withdrawal, Karen decided to stop by the bank and check the balance in her account, since she was planning on buying a new big-screen TV for Allen for Christmas. When she discovered that her account had been emptied, she drove home in a panic, hoping Allen would know what to do. But when she arrived at her house, she found Allen and Lisa there together, and saw the money, the cruise tickets and Lisa's fake "Karen Higgins" ID. Lisa realized that their plans were ruined unless she acted quickly, and pulled a gun on Karen. She convinced Allen that Karen knew too much and needed to be killed, but before Lisa could fire, Karen kicked the gun out of her hand. Karen, Lisa, and Allen all raced for the gun, but Karen got to it first and managed to shoot the other two in a desperate act of self-defense, killing them both.

Karen went into a complete panic. She realized that there was a lot of evidence to make her look like the criminal instead of the victim. Aside from the fact that Allen and Lisa had framed her for embezzlement, her fingerprints were now on the gun, and she knew from watching too many episodes of CSI that she would have gunshot residue on her hands. She didn't think the police would believe the killings had been self-defense, since neither Lisa nor Allen actually had a weapon in their possession at the time of the shooting. Plus, the situation made it look like she had motive: the police would think she had discovered that her husband was cheating on her, and had shot him and his girlfriend in a crime of passion. The only piece of evidence she could think of that might support her story was the false ID, but she had no idea how the police would interpret that.

Perhaps Karen should have turned herself in, but the idea of going to jail absolutely terrified her. In her confused mental state at the time, running seemed like the only acceptable option. She had to hurry; she knew someone might have heard the gunshots, and the police might be on their way. Karen took the fake ID, the gun, Lisa's purse, the briefcase containing the embezzled money, and the cruise tickets and stuffed it all into a suitcase, along with a few changes of clothing. Leaving the house in a hurry, she jumped into her car and drove it a few miles before abandoning it in a Walmart parking lot.

Karen needed time to think things over, to try to find a way to get her life back. After examining the literature from the cruise line, she decided to take Lisa's place on the cruise. Over the course of the next week, she hitchhiked her way to Miami, staying in cheap motels at night and using Lisa's driver's license and credit cards to register. Fortunately, she and Lisa looked similar enough that the motel clerks never noticed in the quick glances they give Lisa's ID that the person in the picture was not the same as the one presenting the card. She counted the money in the briefcase, and figured out that it contained $400,000 of HumanCorp's money as well as the money that had been in her bank account to begin with. She made sure she didn't spend any of the $400,000, because if she were to figure out how to get her life back to normal, she was sure she would have to get that money back to the company. Before boarding the ship, she used some of her own cash from the briefcase to purchase some clothing appropriate for a cruise. When the time came, she boarded the ship as Lisa Blankenship, claiming that Allen wouldn't be able to make the cruise due to circumstances beyond his control.

Special Skills/Abilities: Karen is a very good dancer; this helped lead to her success as a cheerleader. She is also good at painting and drawing, but doesn't use this ability very much.

Personal Weaknesses: First and foremost, Karen is a fugitive from the law. She must keep her true identity hidden. She must be careful about what she says and does. She needs to avoid drawing the attention of anyone who might figure out who she really is, and is afraid to interact with anyone involved in law enforcement. She is tired and scared, and is haunted by the guilt of having killed two people, even though it was in self-defense. She never wanted any of this. The whole situation breaks her heart, and this is the reason she has been struggling with bouts of depression and paranoia.

Karen has difficulty relinquishing control, and she is terrified of being helpless in any given situation. This has led to various problems. For example, she is very uncomfortable with delegating work to others for fear that they might miss a vital detail or do something wrong. In her short career, she has already lost one team-leadership role because of this. It used to interfere with some of the stunts she used to as a cheerleader, cause she had difficulty trusting the others to catch her. Fortunately, her high-school cheerleading coach worked with her on that problem, and she eventually overcame it. Her control issues have affected her love life, too, and were responsible for the failure of at least one relationship back in college. This is one of the reasons she has so much fear of being arrested; she feels like she couldn't handle being locked up against her will.

Creepy, crawly things scare Karen. Snakes, lizards, and most bugs bother her, but she especially does not like spiders and centipedes. Her older sisters used to tease her alot when she would come to one of them and ask them to kill a spider that was in her room. She doesn't want to be in the same room with one, and won't get close enough to one to kill it herself if she has any say in the matter.

Karen has several allergies. Dust, cat dander, and cigarette smoke can all provoke an allergic reaction in her, usually sneezing and itchy, watery eyes. She is also allergic to the pollen of a lot of plants, which causes her some problems each spring and fall. Onions are also a problem, and she can't eat anything that contains them.

Personal Strengths: Karen is highly intelligent, and excels in math, science, or almost any other academic subject. She is kind, considerate, and easy to get along with, and makes a good friend once she gets to know you. She is in excellent physical condition, and works out four or five times a week.

Family: Karen's father Gregory and her mother Laura both still live in Cincinnati. Her oldest sister, Kimberly, lives in Knoxville with her husband, Scott Bowling, and their 5-year-old son Hunter. Kimberly is a registered nurse. Karen's other sister, Jennifer, still lives in Cincinnati and is engaged to a man named Robert Wilson. Jennifer followed in her mother's footsteps and became a teacher.

G Deck - 8203 - The Mirror Room: Karen's room could perhaps pass for something inspired by a dance studio. It has pale wood floors and white walls, doors, and furniture. But the walls are completely covered in mirrors - even in the bathroom, where the ceiling is also mirrored. Upon walking in the room is a white sofa and armchair, a mirrored coffee table, and a flat screen TV on the wall. To the left is the bathroom - which even has a mirrored sink - and to the right is the bedroom, with a queen sized bed, desk, and dresser.

ETC: Karen likes movies, dancing, and reading mystery novels. She likes a variety of music, but usually listens to rock and roll or top-40 pop.
